From Ancestry
Open your tree, choose More, then Tree Settings. Under Manage your tree, choose Export tree and confirm Export. Once generated, download the GEDCOM. Only the tree owner can export it. Ancestry’s current help says the download is inside a ZIP: extract it on your device, then select the .ged file. Do not upload the ZIP here.
From the MyHeritage website
Sign in to your family site. Under Family tree, open Manage Trees, then choose Export to GEDCOM beside the tree you want. Review the export options and begin the export. Trees created in Family Tree Builder use that application’s separate export workflow; follow its official help.
Check compatibility before uploading
We test GEDCOM 5.5 and 5.5.1. UTF-8 is recommended; ASCII, ANSEL, ANSI (Latin-1) and explicitly declared CP1252 or WINDOWS-1252 are also supported. These export instructions do not guarantee that every platform’s current output uses that format. If the importer reports an unsupported version or encoding, use your genealogy application to create a fresh compatible export; do not merely edit the version label.
Why your photographs are missing
GEDCOM is principally text and may contain references to photographs instead of the image files. This service does not retrieve local paths or website URLs from the export. Photographs and notes are omitted from the first edition.
Keep the original and check permissions
Keep an unchanged copy of your export. Submit only research you are authorized to process, and consider exporting a smaller branch. After import, review counts, names and warnings before generating the book.
